Jeff Nelsen

 

World-renowned horn player, educator, and fearless performance coach Jeff Nelsen’s career comprises a true cross-section of the music industry.  Born and raised in Canada with pig-farming, opera-singing parents, Jeff’s background is diverse, to say the least.

As a performer, Jeff has been solo hornist of the world’s most famous brass group, Canadian Brass, appeared as a soloist on five continents, and is a former member of the Montreal and Vancouver Symphonies. He has played the full run of two shows on Broadway, and toured with Barry Manilow and Michael Bolton. Jeff has performed in the horn sections of the New York Philharmonic, Boston, National, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis Symphonies, and on numerous film soundtracks.  As a member of Canadian Brass, in addition to the hundreds of quintet recitals performed all over the world, Jeff has been featured with countless symphony orchestras including Atlanta, Baltimore, Detroit, Houston, Montreal, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Rotterdam, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, and Toronto. 

Sought after as an inspirational and innovative educator, Professor Nelsen has been on the faculty of the prestigious Indiana University Jacobs School of Music since 2006. Jeff has taught at over 100 music schools internationally, and at multiple summer music festivals including Music Academy of the West (USA), Melbourne International Festival of Brass (Australia), Hamamatsu Academy (Japan), Orford (Canada), Belgium Brass Festival (Belgium), and the BeBrassy Festival (Holland).  Jeff has been invited to guest lecture to Bands of America, National Youth Orchestra of Canada, and the International and British Horn Societies. 

Jeff Nelsen is a Yamaha performing artist and clinician.  Jeff is an inspirational writer, and you can find his articles and blogs focusing on “Fearlessness” online at www.jeffnelsen.com.  Aside from creating musical magic, Jeff is an enthusiastic magician, and often adds touches of illusionary arts to performances.
