Abigail Martin grew up in Johnsburg, Illinois and attended Johnsburg High School. Upon graduation, Ms. Martin attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater as a Greenhill Excellence in the Arts Award winner, an honor given to an outstanding incoming freshman fine arts candidate, and as an NCAA tennis athlete. During her time as a K-12 general and instrumental music education major, Ms. Martin studied horn with Linda Kimball, was named the Outstanding Junior for the College of Arts and Communications, and was the 2011 UWW Concerto Competition Winner. Two of her most exceptional accomplishments during her undergraduate career included winning the M. Josephine O’Neill Arts Award from the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Illinois for outstanding achievement in the arts, and being awarded the prestigious 2011 Richard G. Gaarder Award, given to the most promising music education senior in the state of Wisconsin.

After graduating summa cum laude, she moved on to obtain her Master of Music degree from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, under the tutelage of Mr. Randy Gardner, Mrs. Elizabeth Freimuth, and Mr. Tom Sherwood. She maintains a busy freelance career in the tri-state area, and holds positions as Assistant Principal Horn in the Richmond Symphony Orchestra (IN) and is acting Principal Horn of the Cincinnati Chamber Opera. An active chamber musician, Ms. Martin was part of a woodwind quintet that was a national finalist in the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) chamber music competition in 2014. She has studied and attended masterclasses with many celebrated hornists, such as Myron Bloom, Thomas Bacon, Hermann Baumann, Edwin Thayer, Kendall Betts, Lin Foulk, Doug Hill and Jeff Nelsen.

Ms. Martin currently attends the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati as a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate in horn and Performance Management Graduate Assistant, under the tutelage of Mr. Randy Gardner and Mrs. Elizabeth Freimuth. In her spare time, she loves playing and teaching tennis, working out and spending time with friends and family.
