ABBY MAYERAbby Mayer

ABBY MAYER graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Horn Performance. He earned both a Master of Music Education and a Professional Diploma in Administration from Columbia University. He is a Permanent Certified New York State teacher and is also certified as a School Administrator and Supervisor. He is the former Dean of Students at the SUNY Maritime Academy and a Supervisor of Education in the New York State Corrections System.

Mr. Mayer has been a member of the National Symphony Orchestra, the Seventh Army Symphony, Europe, the Baltimore Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphony and the USMA West Point Band. He is the founder and director of the Abby Chamber Players and has performed with the Newburgh Chamber Orchestra, the Highland Symphony Orchestra, the Ill Winds and the Tri-State Opera. He is also a frequent substitute performer in Broadway show orchestras. He lectures on the "Development of Brass Instruments" and was the Professor of Horn at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Presently, he is an Adjunct Professor at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. Mr. Mayer has recently authored and published A Pamphlet for Self Improvement on the Horn.  He maintains a busy private studio at his home and is always “on the go” as a freelancer in the New York City area.

Mr. Mayer has been a mainstay at KBHC from the inception though he missed 1998 due to illness.  It is indeed a pleasure to welcome him back for the entire three weeks in 2008.
